PAUSE forgive me for that lame rhyming I just tried to do lol. Ya'll know I'm a mommy and Dr.Seuss is the homie so story time kind of rubbed off on me today! I won't do that ever again I promise lol .... I'm going to just get straight to the recipe to make up for that bad intro!

Trophy Mom Tips

If grits get too thick gradually add in more broth.

If you don't want to use milk you can use 2 cups of broth instead.


Cheesy Grits w/ Red Cajun Gravy


Cajun Gravy

  • 1 15oz can tomato sauce

  • 1 can of petite diced tomatoes⠀

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce ⠀

  • 1 cup chicken broth

  • 2 stalks Celery⠀

  • 1/4 of a Green Pepper ⠀

  • 3 cloves garlic minced

  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning ⠀

  • 1 teaspoon Thyme⠀

  • 2 tablespoons flour

  • a dab of Hot sauce ⠀

  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper⠀

  • Salt and Pepper to taste ⠀⠀

  • Butter⠀

Cheesy Grits

* These measurements serve two. Look at grits bag for proper measurements if you need more*

  • 1 cup milk⠀

  • 1 cup chicken broth⠀

  • 1 cup Colby jack shredded cheese

  • 1/2 cup grits

  • 2 tablespoons butter ⠀

  • Salt and pepper to taste ⠀



  1. Add 1 tbsp butter to pan. Once melted add in veggies and sauté 2-3 mins.

  2. Add in 2 tbsp flour and mix until well combined.⠀

  3. Then add in diced tomatoes. Mix well.⠀

  4. Add in tomato sauce and season with Cajun seasoning and thyme. ⠀

  5. Then add in chicken broth, hot sauce (as much or as little as you'd like), Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper and salt and pepper to taste.⠀

  6. Mix all ingredients well. Taste for any adjustments. ⠀

  7. Bring to low boil , then reduce heat to low.

  8. Cover and let simmer on low until ready to use.⠀

Cheesy Grits

  1. Bring 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of chicken broth to a boil

  2. Stir in 1/2 cup grits.

  3. Reduce heat and let simmer on low for about 5 minutes.

  4. Add in butter and cheese.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.

  6. When ready to serve add cajun gravy and potato skillet on top!

  7. Enjoy!
